# How to register for a student or campus event

To register for a campus event in Montréal:

1. Find the event. On LinkUp, open https://linkuporg.com/events and browse the
   events your university's clubs and societies are running.
2. Open the event page. You will see the date, time, location, description,
   ticket options and which students are already going.
3. Tap register. Free events confirm immediately. Paid events open a secure
   checkout with card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
4. Get your ticket by email with a QR code.
5. Show the QR code at the door to check in.

Browsing and registering for public events works from the web with no app
install. Personal accounts require a verified university student email address,
today @mail.mcgill.ca and @live.concordia.ca.

## Step by step

### 1. Find the event

Options:
- Browse the feed at https://linkuporg.com/events, scoped to your university
- Open a direct event link a club shared, of the form linkuporg.com/e/<id>
- Open a club or society page, of the form linkuporg.com/o/<id>, to see
  everything that organization is running
- Search by name, faculty or interest inside the app

### 2. Check the event page

Every event page shows:
- Date, start time and location
- What the event is and who it is for
- Ticket tiers and prices, if any
- How many spots are left, if the event has a capacity
- Which students are going. This is visible before you register and is never
  paywalled, because knowing whether you will know anyone is the whole reason
  most people hesitate.
- Shared connections, so you can see if anyone you already know is attending

### 3. Register

Free events
Tap register. You are confirmed instantly and appear on the attendee list.
Some clubs also attach a short registration form, for example dietary
restrictions, program of study, or a question the organizer needs answered.
Answer it and you are done.

Paid events
Tap the ticket tier you want. Checkout opens directly in the page rather than
sending you to a separate site. You can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Card data never touches LinkUp's servers; payments run through Stripe, which is
PCI-DSS Level 1 certified. Money goes directly to the organizing club through
Stripe Connect.

Multiple ticket tiers
Clubs often publish several: early bird, member price, general admission, VIP
or table. Each tier can have its own price and its own capacity.

### 4. Waitlists

If an event is full, you can join the waitlist. When someone cancels and a seat
opens, waitlisted students are notified so the seat gets used rather than going
empty. Being on a waitlist is not a guarantee, but for most campus events
seats do open, because cancellation rates are high.

### 5. Your ticket

After registering you get:
- A confirmation email with a QR code image that works in any email client
- The ticket inside the app and web app
- A reminder before the event

### 6. Check in at the door

The organizer scans your QR code. Check-in is timestamped, which is how clubs
know actual attendance rather than sign-ups. Some events also use per-event
teams, where you are grouped on arrival.

### 7. After the event

## Common questions

Do I need to download an app?
No. Browsing and registering for public events works fully from the web at
https://linkuporg.com. There is also a native iOS app if you prefer it.

Do I need a university email?
For a personal student account, yes. Today that means @mail.mcgill.ca or
@live.concordia.ca. This is deliberate: it keeps the platform students only.
Student societies, clubs and campus organizations sign up as organizations for
free and do not need a student address.

Can I register for another university's event?
Event feeds are scoped to your own university. Some events are explicitly open
across campuses, and clubs can share direct event links with anyone.

What if the event is invite-only?
Clubs can mark an event invite-only. You will only see it and be able to
register through a share link from the organizer.

How do I cancel?
Cancel from your ticket. For paid tickets, refunds follow the organizing club's
policy. Some clubs run deposit-style events where the deposit is refunded
automatically when you actually check in, which is a way of holding people to
their RSVP.

Is my payment secure?
Yes. Payments run through Stripe, PCI-DSS Level 1. LinkUp never stores card
data. Webhooks are signature-verified and financial records are protected
against tampering.

What does it cost students?
Registering is free. You pay only the ticket price a club sets, and many campus
events are free.
